Key Factors to consider when choosing a new Air Conditioner

What is a SEER rating?

âś… SEER ratings measure an A/C unit’s energy efficiency over the cooling season. A higher SEER rating means the system uses less energy to cool your home, which translates into lower monthly utility costs. For example, a unit with a 20 SEER rating will use less electricity than a 14 SEER unit, resulting in long-term savings.

Variable-Speed vs. Single-Speed Blower Motors:

âś… Single-Speed Motors: These motors run at a fixed speed and turn on and off to maintain your desired temperature. While more affordable upfront, they can cause temperature fluctuations and tend to consume more energy over time.

âś… Variable-Speed Motors: These motors adjust their speed to maintain consistent temperatures and humidity levels. They are more energy-efficient, improve comfort, and often operate more quietly. Over time, variable-speed systems can help you save money on energy costs while enhancing your indoor comfort.

Heat Pump vs. A/C-Only Units:

âś… Heat Pumps: These systems provide both heating and cooling by reversing the refrigeration cycle. Heat pumps are energy-efficient and great for moderate climates like Southwest Florida, as they offer both heating and cooling in one system.

âś… A/C-Only Units: These systems offer cooling only. While they are often less expensive upfront, they do require an additional electric heater for the winter months, making them less efficient for year-round use compared to heat pumps.

Inverter vs NON-Inverter Compressor

âś… Inverter Compressor: Inverter A/C units use variable-speed compressor technology, allowing them to adjust output for consistent temperature control, higher energy efficiency, quieter operation, and longer lifespan. Our higher tier units utilize inverter technology for superior cooling and energy consumption.

âś… NON-Inverter Compressor: Non-inverter units operate with a simple on/off compressor, leading to more noise, less efficiency, and temperature fluctuations. This has been the standard for air conditioners for a very long time.

What Could Be Wrong with My Ductwork?

✅ Improper Sizing: In many older homes, ductwork was not designed to accommodate the higher airflow demands of today’s high-efficiency HVAC systems. Modern units—especially those with higher SEER ratings—require adequate airflow to perform efficiently. Undersized or improperly configured ducts can restrict airflow, reducing system performance and potentially causing damage to the new equipment, regardless of the brand.

✅ Duct Deterioration: In Southwest Florida, attic ductwork is exposed to extreme temperatures, often exceeding 130°F during the summer. Over time, this intense heat can degrade older duct materials, leading to air leakage, reduced efficiency, and uneven cooling throughout the home.

✅ Duct Pricing: Ductwork replacement is estimated based on the number of supply “drops” (air vents) in your home. For the most accurate estimate, count all supply vents—typically located on the ceiling—in each room and enter the total number for the entire home into the calculator below.

Warranty Information:

âś… York/Guardian: Upgraded 5 Year Labor/ 10 Year Parts Warranty

âś… All other equipment manufacturers: Standard 1 year labor/10 year parts

âś… All equipment optional upgrade: 10 year labor/10 year parts warranty is available for purchase at time of installation.

Under Florida state law, HVAC manufacturer warranties automatically transfer to new property owners upon the sale of a home or business. Warranty coverage is linked to the equipment’s serial number(s) and the property address, ensuring continuity of protection.
